Chanterlle
Completed 2020
Rebuilt from the ashes of the 2017 Santa Rosa fires, the Chanterelle House stands as a quiet expression of renewal and grace. The home carries the memory of its original footprint, yet transforms it into something lighter, spaces washed in soft tones and natural light, where restraint gives rise to calm. Every surface and junction was reconsidered to bring warmth without weight: white cabinetry and pale walls act as a canvas for the family’s life, while subtle shadow lines and warm wood floors introduce depth and texture. Within this clarity, moments of personality emerge with art, furnishings, and everyday objects layered as gentle interruptions in an otherwise serene rhythm. The result is a home both restorative and enduring, where simplicity becomes its most elegant form of resilience.
The kitchen embodies the project’s core intention: light, calm, and refinement. White cabinetry and soft-veined marble surfaces reflect daylight in quiet layers, while polished nickel accents introduce subtle rhythm and depth. The open pendants bring architectural structure without heaviness, and the soft blue stools ground the palette with a hint of warmth. Every element contributes to an atmosphere of ease and quiet sophistication.
Positioned directly adjacent to the main living areas, the outdoor terrace unfolds as a natural extension of the home, flowing seamlessly through a rhythm of French doors. Bathed in sunlight, the space is conceived as an open-air room where interior and landscape dissolve into one continuous experience. It invites both quiet moments and shared gatherings, offering expansive views across the yard and into the vineyard-lined valley beyond.
Each bedroom reflects the personality of its occupant while remaining anchored in the home’s overarching calm and continuity. Soft textures, layered whites, and minimal detailing create a foundation of serenity, while personalized accents, like instruments, textiles, or subtle color shifts, add a quiet sense of identity. The result is a series of spaces that feel uniquely personal yet effortlessly unified within the home’s restrained palette and refined sensibility.
The entry unfolds with quiet formality, where curved railings and layered light set a serene introduction to the home. A sculptural chandelier and inset niche create moments of pause, balancing softness with structure. Adjacent to it, the dining area continues the language of restraint; marble floors, pale walls, and tailored furnishings reflect natural light in calm succession. The result is a cohesive transition between spaces, defined by balance, proportion, and understated elegance.
